Monitors

HTTP, keyword, TCP port and SSL certificate checks, and how to organize them.

Monitor types

TypeWhat it checksGoes DOWN when
HTTP(S)Requests a URL and measures the response time. The status code differs from the expected one (200 by default), the connection fails or times out.
KeywordRequests a URL and looks for a piece of text in the response body. The keyword is missing from the body, or the HTTP check itself fails.
TCP PortOpens a TCP connection to a host and port, for example PostgreSQL on 5432 or SMTP on 25.The connection is refused or times out.
SSL CertValidates the certificate chain of a host and reads its expiry date. The certificate is expired or invalid. A warning is raised when it expires within 7 days.
HeartbeatWaits for your job to call a URL. See the Heartbeat monitoring article. No ping arrives in time, or the job reports a failure.

HTTP options

  • Method: GET, POST, HEAD or PUT, with an optional request body.
  • Custom headers, for example an Authorization bearer token.
  • Expected status: set it if a healthy endpoint does not answer 200.
  • Basic authentication: fill in the Username and Password fields, or put the credentials in the URL (https://user:password@example.com). ResPulse adds the Authorization header for you.

Check interval

The Free plan checks at most once a minute. Intervals of 10 and 30 seconds are available on Pro. Scheduling precision is in seconds: a check may start a couple of seconds after its due time.

What you see on a monitor card

  • Current status and a timeline of the last 30 checks. Hover a bar for the exact time, HTTP status and latency.
  • Latency as the median (p50) and p95 of successful checks over the last 24 hours, so one slow check does not distort the picture.
  • Rolling uptime for 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.

Organizing monitors

  • Folder / Group: put related monitors together, for example Websites, Core APIs, Infrastructure. Folder View shows a health counter per folder.
  • Tags: comma-separated labels such as prod, api, payments. Click a tag in the tag bar to filter. Tags also drive alert routing on Pro.
  • Search and filters by name, URL, status and type. The Compact View toggle shows one line per monitor.

Everyday actions

  • Test Now runs a check immediately.
  • Pause and Resume stop and restart checking, for example during maintenance. A paused monitor does not raise incidents.
  • Edit changes any setting at any time.
  • Select several monitors with the checkboxes to pause, resume, test, move to a folder, tag or delete them in one go.
For safety, monitor targets and webhook URLs may not point to private or internal addresses (localhost, 10.x, 192.168.x and similar). Such a monitor is rejected with an error.
